Normal Female Pelvic Anatomy
We began by creating an anatomical image of a healthy female pelvis to remind potential jurors of the normal location and structure of the various internal organs. This image was created in layers so that we could quickly and easily add the traumatic injuries, saving our Client time and money.
Bullet Trajectory
The inset here is the same image of the normal anatomy, but includes an arrow to demonstrate bullet trajectory. The main image depicts the extensive fractures of the pelvic bones.
Lateral View- Bullet Trajectory
We recommended to the Client that a lateral view be used to show how the bullet transected the urethra, vagina, and sigmoid colon. This powerful image proved highly effective.
Surgical Progression
The plaintiff’s healthcare providers tried to save what they could of her organs, but the remaining tissue became necrotic. This poster shows the progression of the plaintiff’s vaginal surgeries, as well as the placement of a Greenfield catheter in her inferior vena cava, which was performed to prevent life-threatening pulmonary emboli.
Resection and Colostomy
A second lateral view of the pelvis shows the resection of the rectum and colostomy. Oftentimes, lateral anatomical views are the best choice when demonstrating medical injuries to jurors. Our medical illustrators will recommend the anatomical views that best communicate the injuries for each specific case.
Exit Wound
Finally, we created an image to show the extension of the bullet’s exit wound in the gluteal area. Rather than creating an illustration of the superficial scar, we suggested that a photo of the plaintiff be included in this poster. Photos provided by the plaintiff’s family can be very effective when trying to show a jury the debilitating superficial scars of such traumatic injuries.
